Skincare Tips From An Ex Lush Employee
For the last year I have been working at the flagship Lush store and when I say I was bombarded with information I mean bombarded. Part of your Lush training is to understand every aspect of the store ranging from body care, hair care and skincare. In this training you learn about the ingredients and their benefits, where they are sourced from and what would suit different skin needs. The Lush ethos is all about asking the customer how they want to feel rather than asking them to point out problem areas they need help with. So, with that I would love to pass on some of the tips and tricks I learnt along the way. So, tell me ‘how do you want to feel?’
I want to feel glowing
For skin that you feel glows and radiates like a literal sunflower; there’s a few ingredients you should look out for in your skincare routine
Lemon – this works as a brightening exfoliant, the citrus smell is very energising and leaves your skin feeling super fresh
Mint – this is an incredibly stimulating ingredient that can promote blood flow to the area it’s being used on
I want to feel clean
When you want to feel scrubbed and fresh; like you’ve just done a deep clean of your room for the first time in three months
Sea salt – obviously, this is a natural exfoliant that will provide gentle buffing on the skin. I have a sea saltwater toner that makes my skin feel like it’s been washed so deeply
Lavender – helps to regulate the production of sebum oil in the face and balances the skin between being too oily and being too dry
Charcoal – provides a deep cleanse that reaches into the pores; perfect if you’ve got some blackheads you want to tackle
I want to feel luxurious
I want to feel the way Sharpay Evans does in High School Musical 3; pulling up in her hot pink convertible and walking up those stairs in a pink leather skirt in slow mo…. (aka: fabulous)
Honey – ridiculously hydrating; natural humectant which means it locks moisture into the skin allowing it to feel really nourished
Almond oil – this ingredient is all about softening the skin and providing it with a bit of comfort and smoothness
These are just a few tips I’ve picked up from working on the shop floor. Obviously, there is a lot more to skincare and it’s all about building routines and being consistent with them. Working with Lush was such a lovely experience and it really did teach me the importance of self-care. Let me know if you’d like to know anymore about my time there!
